On the Field for the Community

Founded in 2007, Lo Zoccolo Duro Football Club was born from a group of friends united by their passion for football and a shared desire to promote values like respect, open dialogue, and participation. These principles extend beyond the football field, inspiring initiatives that blend sports, community, and social engagement.
On December 2nd and 9th, members of the association brought these values to life at Refettorio Made in Cloister in Naples, dedicating their time, energy, and even providing tangible support to make two dinners for people in need. In this interview, Claudio Tenuta, representative of the association, shares what inspired their participation and the impact this experience had on them.

1. How would you describe your experience at Refettorio Made in Cloister? What stood out the most, both from a human and professional perspective?
   The experience was deeply moving, emotionally impactful, yet also filled with joy and a sense of camaraderie. We were split into two groups for the two dinners, and we tried to bring all of our energy, optimism, and awareness of how fortunate we are compared to those in more challenging situations. During the preparation, which we shared with Chef Sabrina Russo, we followed her guidance with full dedication, contributing our creativity and reinforcing the spirit of mutual solidarity, both among us and toward others. What really struck us was the dedication of the people at the Foundation, who selflessly offer their free time, sacrificing work and family to support those in need.

2. What was the main lesson or message that you shared with your association members through this experience?
   This experience deepened our appreciation for how fortunate we are to live peaceful lives, surrounded by loved ones, with stable families and secure jobs. We learned so much from the simplicity and humility of the people we met, who face enormous struggles with dignity, often far from their loved ones and lacking both emotional and financial stability.

3. Your involvement went beyond just serving meals; you also made food donations for the guests at the Refettorio. What motivated you to take this extra step?
   We felt it was important to contribute extra funds to buy higher-quality ingredients, so that, alongside the Chef, we could offer the guests a meal prepared with the same care and attention you’d expect in a restaurant. Our goal was to provide them with a special moment of normalcy and thoughtful attention—something that many of them often don’t have access to.

4. How do you think getting involved in initiatives like this can strengthen the relationship between sports associations like yours and the social fabric of the city?
   Taking an active role in initiatives like this helps us strengthen our connection with the community. It provides new energy and motivation to improve ourselves and those around us. We are motivated by the desire to lead more ethical, respectful lives, and to recognize the challenges that others may face. These experiences teach us to see others not as “different,” but as valuable resources, helping to create a more united and supportive society.
